WHERE CAN I GET THE ANGRY BEAVERS ON DVD?
The only "legitimate" source of the show on DVD is Amazon.com,
and only episodes 1-3 and 5-12 are available (it's called "The Best of Angry
Beavers - Season 1", although "best of" is almost certainly just "code words"
for "we have a reason to keep one or more of the episodes off of the DVD").
Note that these are part of Amazon's "video on demand" service - Paramount Home
Video apparently thought the cost of creating, packaging, and distributing DVDs
would exceed what income they could get from people buying them, so these DVDs
are part of a system where, when you ask for it, they copy the episodes onto a
blank DVD, put it in a box, print up a cover, and send it to you. The
problem with this is, DVDs created this way don't work in every DVD player
(especially ones that have a recording ability as well).
IS THERE A MISSING EPISODE?
Sort of. There was a pilot, titled "Snowed In",
and it deals with Norbert and Daggett trying to pass the time while being snowed
in. There are a few differences from the series; Norbert looks a lot like
Daggett, and he is voiced by Kevin Meaney. I have heard people (at least
one from Europe and one from Latin America that I can recall) tell me about
another story, titled "Cuffed Together", in which
Norbert and Daggett are arrested after Daggett starts chewing on an expensive
wooden statue, but they manage to escape, although they're handcuffed together.
However, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and Micah Wright tell me
that they have never heard of "Cuffed Together"
REQUA & FICARRA ANSWER THE "EL GRAPADURA" QUESTION
Remember when I said, "Every dictionary I've seen has "grapadora" as the
word for stapler, and no entry for "grapadura", yet in "Norberto y Daggetto en El Grapadura Y El
Castor Malo" and "Kreature Komforts" (notice the stapler in the game), "grapadura" becomes
"stapler". Am I missing something?"? Well, I got an E-mail from writers John Requa
and Glenn Ficarra (who wrote "Kandid Kreatures", the first El Grapadura episode) explaining that they
had asked one of the staffers who spoke Spanish what the Spanish word for "stapler" was, and said staffer
spelled it "grapadura" (which, if you ask me, is a better-sounding name for a wrestler anyway).
(P.S. from John and Glenn: say no to drugs.)
However, I have been informed from Eduardo Ascarrunz of Chile that "grapadura"
may actually be "grapa dura", which means "hard staple". He also says that some other names
change in the Spanish-dubbed versions: Treeflower ("Flordelbosque" - I think that translates closer to
"forest flower"), Stump ("Muñón" - yes, it means "stump"), and Oxnard
Montalvo (changed to Onardo Montalvo).
HEY, WHO CHANGED THE DIALOGUE?
Ryan Mead points out that at the end of "Alley Oops!" (episode 24), after Daggett says "You stink!",
Norbert originally responded "Oh, <BEEP> up, Dag!", but now he says "Shush up, stupid!"
As far as we know, it's the first time any Nicktoon has had a line changed between airings.
According to The Beaver Zone, the original
line was supposed to be "Shut up, Dag!", but somebody complained about Norbert telling Daggett to "shut
up" (like one of the people who complain when Angelica calls the others "dumb babies"), so they
censored the word until Nick Bakay could record a new line.
Meanwhile, somebody caught another one: see "Spooky Spoots" (episode 29)
on the Season 3-5 page
