Back to School
Grandpa admits he never fulfilled his dream of finishing grade school, so Arnold talks him into going back - and
he ends up in Arnold's class
Written by Craig Bartlett
Story by Craig Bartlett, Joe Ansolabehere, and Steve Viksten
Storyboard Direction by Mario Piluso
Animation Direction by Frank Weiss
Storyboard Artists: Kurt Dumas, Cesar Martinez
Cast:
Arnold - Spencer Klein
Gerald - Jamil W. Smith
Stinky - Christopher Walberg
Sid - Sam Gifaldi
Wolfgang, (uncredited) sixth grade bully - Toran Caudell
Grandpa - Dan Castellaneta
Grandma - Tress MacNeille
Mr. Simmons - Dan Butler
Principal Wartz - David Wohl
- This is the first episode co-creator Joe Ansolabehere has written since the second
season
- Arnold's homework problem is 325 divided by 27.6; hopefully, Arnold was told
to round off to a certain number of decimal places, as the answer is 11.77536231884057971014492 and repeat the
last 22 decimal places over and over
- Are Oskar and Suzie fighting again? They sit on opposite sides of the table
in the scene where Grandpa tells everybody he's been promoted to sixth grade.
- "The sum of the square root of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is
equal to the square root of the remaining side" - I've heard this twice before; when the Scarecrow receives
his diploma in The Wizard of Oz,
and in an episode of The Simpsons
(coincidentally, it was said by Homer, who is also voiced by Dan Castellaneta). However, it's wrong!
He's trying to state the Pythagorean Theorem, which is: The sum of the squares of the lengths of the two legs of a right triangle is equal to the square of the length of the hypotenuse. (Those of you familiar with trigonometry may also know the Law of Cosines: The sum of the squares of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle, minus two times the
product of those lengths times the cosine of the angle they create, equals the square of the length of the remaining
side.)

Helga and Arnold chosen Harold
- How did Harold fry an egg that was about to hatch?
- When Harold apologizes to Rhonda, the music from I
Pagliacci (the music Harold sings to in "What's Opera, Arnold?")
