they know only as Marty

Storyboard Artist: Jay Lender
Cast:
Arnold - Phillip Van Dyke

Cab driver, party clown - Craig Bartlett
Uncredited: Caesar
- Arnold's computer is made by Purdy Electronics; Joseph Purdy wrote the episode
- As someone who's done quite a bit of freeze-framing and computer work, I think
I'm qualified to say that nobody's computer and video camera are good enough to zoom a picture as much as Arnold
did while maintaining the clarity as well
- Why did Arnold and Gerald watch the tape of the party on the computer instead
of by hooking the camera to the TV like they did the first time?
- Then again, apparently Arnold put the party tape into a VCR and hooked the VCR
up to the computer, as the tape was still running when Arnold and Gerald left the room at the end with the camera
- All they know about the target is that his name is "Marty"; Gerald
never realizes that it could be short for Martin - Gerald's father's first name

Phoebe Cheats
Phoebe wins a poetry contest by submitting a poem she didn't write, but her prize - a statuette of poet Emily
Dickinson - haunts her for cheating
Written by Antoinette Stella
Story by Danica Ivancevic
Storyboard Direction by Tuck Tucker
Animation Direction by Larry Leichliter
Storyboard Artist: Derek Drymon
Cast:
Arnold - Phillip Van Dyke
Helga - Francesca Marie Smith
Phoebe - Anndi McAfee
Stinky - Christopher Walberg
Mr. Simmons - Dan Butler
Principal Wartz - David Wohl
Phoebe's father - George Takei
Phoebe's mother - Jean Smart
The Emily Dickinson trophy - Carol Kane
- If you asked "Where have I heard that voice before?": Phoebe's father
was voiced by George Takei, who was Sulu on Star Trek
(the "Kirk" version, not the "Picard" one); Phoebe's mother was voiced by Jean Smart, who was
Charlene (not to be confused with her sister Carlene) on Designing Women; the trophy was voiced by Carol Kane, who's probably best known for being Simka on Taxi
- Phoebe's parents' first names are listed in the credits: Kyo and Reba
- For someone who tries too hard to be the best at everything, Phoebe certainly
took being no better than the third best speller in the class quite well in "Spelling Bee"
- The sign in Phoebe's room says "CARPE UNUM" - which I think means
"Seize One" in Latin (not to be confused with Carpe Diem ("sieze the day") or E Pluribus Unum ("one out of many")
- This is only the second episode (the first being "Helga's Makeover")
where Nadine is mentioned by name
-
If you think you've seen this story somewhere before, you
have; in the first season of The Facts of Life, Blair
cheats on a poetry assignment by copying a poem by Emily
Dickinson, and it ends up finishing in third place in a New
York statewide poetry competition
- Without her glasses, Phoebe looks a lot like Rhonda
- The night she wins the trophy, Phoebe goes to bed in her dress
- The next night, Phoebe's bed clothes switch back and forth between her nightgown
and her dress
- Don't try this at home: even though Phoebe and her father were wearing eyegear
(if you count Phoebe's glasses) while fencing, they weren't wearing masks
- The door to the "fencing room" in Phoebe's house has the same wallpaper
on the outside as the rest of the hallway, and it has no outside handle, which makes it hard to find the door from
the outside
