for ransom

Animation Direction by Steve Socki
(Only Steve Socki received a "Directed By" credit)
Storyboard Artists: Scott Shaw, Tim Parsons
Cast:
Arnold - Phillip Van Dyke
Gerald - Jamil W. Smith
Curly - Adam Wylie
Harold - Justin Shenkarow
Timberly - Avriel Epps
Chocolate Boy - Jordan Warkol (credited as "Workhol")
Wally, announcer - John Schuck
- In the game, the cards Gerald is holding appear to be regular playing cards
- The episode takes place in mid-June, but that brings up the question: is that
between third and fourth grades or between fourth and fifth? (Yes, there are some questions that even I have to
answer "who cares?")
Song Lyrics to the Wally theme song
Wally loves you - all you little girls and boys
Wally loves you - and he loves it when you buy his toys
He loves to see your happy faces
So buy his sheets and pillowcases
Buy his ribbons for your hair
And buy his fuzzy underwear
Buy a Wally salad spinner
Eat a Wally TV dinner
Tell your dad to tell your mom
To buy a Wally CD-ROM
Wally loves you - all you little girls and boys
Wally loves you - and he loves it when you buy his toys
(a "salad spinner" is an automatic salad mixer - it's a plastic
bowl with a lid that has a handle on it; you turn it and it "spins" the salad)

Ms. Perfect
The girls are all jealous of a new girl in the class (even Phoebe, who's no longer always the first with the answers),
but after they play a prank on her, they discover that her home life is far from perfect

Cast:
Helga - Francesca Marie Smith
Phoebe - Anndi L. McAfee
Rhonda - Olivia Hack
Stinky - Christopher P. Walberg
Mr. Simmons, Lila's father - Dan Butler
Lila - Ashley Buccille
Big girl (Patty) - Danielle Judovitz
Lunch lady - Kath E. Soucie
- This is the only story in the first four seasons where Arnold doesn't say anything
- What's this? Somebody (Rhonda) actually wears something different to school for a change? (Well, besides Arnold's "black belt" period in "Mugged")
- When Lila is finishing her first joke, Rhonda suddenly switches from her French
outfit to her "usual" one; also, during the Jell-O indicent, her beret disappears and then reappears
- When Lila was assigned a new locker, the girl who got her old locker got her
old combination as well; it's never a good thing when someone else knows your locker combination
- If the girls really
wanted to "let Lila have it", they should have let her trade her fake meat sandwich, wax apple, and pickle
juice lunch, and then try to explain her way out of it (then again, watching her get a broom closet beating may
have been going overboard, even for five jealous fourth graders)
- Don't try that stunt with the string tied to the chair at your school -
not just because it's not a nice thing to do, but it won't work unless the binder is glued to the vending machine;
when Lila pulled her chair back, the string should have pulled the binder away from the machine
- Francesca Marie Smith got a credit as "Helga/Sheena", but Sheena never
said anything (except when the other girls were talking as well, but Nadine didn't get a credit)
- The big girl's name is revealed to be Patty in the third season episode "Helga
vs. Big Patty"
