Tour de Pond
Arnold's main competition in the annual pond boat race is a snooty rich kid whose grandfather won the same race 70 years ago against Grandpa - by cheating
Written by Rick Gitelson
Storyboard Direction by Dan Povenmire
Animation Direction by Juli Murphy-Hashiguchi (credited as "Julie" in the opening credits)
Storyboard Artist: Sherm Cohen

Cast:
Arnold - Toran Caudell
Gerald - Jamil W. Smith
Phoebe - Anndi L. McAfee
Sid - Sam Gifaldi
Stinky - Christopher P. Walberg
Grandpa - Dan Castellaneta
Rex - Joey Stinson
Rex's grandfather - Tony Jay
Rex's assistant - Carlos Alazraqui

  • This story reminds me of (and may have even been based on) a "motorized duck" race held in Australia a few years ago, in which one duck was so much faster than the others that, even giving the others a head start, it literally raced rings around the competition, just like Rex's boat did in the first race
  • How did they race in the days before radio-controlled boats? (Even with wind or battery-powered motors, there's no way to steer)
  • Shouldn't there have been other boats besides Arnold's and Rex's in the final race?

Teachers' Strike
The latest school cutbacks are just too much for the teachers to take, so they go on strike, and the students enjoy the "vacation", but when they realize that the teachers have temporary jobs at all of the students' hangouts and that any days missed have to be made up in the summer, they try to get the teachers back to work

  • There were hardly any girls in the arcade...but "in my day", way back when video games didn't exist, it was the same way
  • Torvald's mother is the checkout clerk at the market (where's Gerald's mother?)
  • None of the kids wear bowling shoes at the bowling alley
  • The first time they return to the school, they're told they're trespassing, but the second time (when they go back to their class), Principal Wartz doesn't seem to care
  • There weren't enough desks in the room at the start of the episode, but there were plenty of desks when they returned during the strike
  • The calendar in the "faculty room" said "July"; actually, it's April, since it's 65 days before summer vacation
  • The kinds of coffee Mindy offered (comma locations are pretty much guesses): Mocha Java, Java Mocha, Arabian Mocha, Krakatoan Estate Java (what, not "Krakatoa East Of Java", never mind that it's really west of Java), Zimbabwe, Sumatra, Antigua, Guatemala, Kenya, Hawaiian Kona, Kona Koala, Walla Walla, Dark Roast, Light Roast, and Dark Light Roast
  • In the scene where Principal Wartz and Miss Slovak are talking to the kids, when Gerald is talking, the back part of Sheena's hair appears to be faded to the point where you can just about see through it
